This article covers frequently asked questions related to eDVIR pre-trip and post-trip inspections on a mobile device. These inspections are essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of vehicles in commercial fleets. Drivers electronically submit an eDVIR, an electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, both pre-trip and post-trip. By streamlining the inspection process and promptly reporting and addressing vehicle issues, this digital system enhances both safety and efficiency. By utilizing eDVIRs, RyderGyde™ can maintain more accurate records and improve compliance with transportation regulations. Additionally, this technology allows for real-time updates and alerts, enabling swift action in case of any critical findings during inspections. As the transportation industry continues to evolve, eDVIRs represent a significant step forward in leveraging technology to improve operational standards and driver accountability.

Creating an eDVIR

Step-By-Step Guide
For a quick checklist on how to create an eDVIR, follow the steps:
- Launch the RyderGyde™ mobile app and tap on the Start eDVIR button.
- Enter your vehicle number or scan the bar code to start, then tap on Add Vehicle to add your unit, review that the unit is correct, and then tap on Next. Add an additional unit if necessary.
- Tap either the Pre-trip or Post-trip tabs and delete any prior issues that are not still an issue. The Trailer page will not appear if a trailer has not been added.
- Tap Next to select other items that may need to be noted on the inspection. Add comments to the defect if needed.
- Tap Next to go through the pages, then tap Finish on the last page once completed.
- If logged in, the Driver's contact information will appear. If not logged in, the Driver will need to fill in their information. When entering the cell number for contact information, the Driver will need to allow SMS permissions on their mobile device. Tap Next to proceed.
- Review the information on the inspection screen and tap if the vehicle is safe to operate. Tap Agree to complete. A confirmation pop-up will appear indicating that no further action is needed.
A screen will appear indicating if there is an eDVIR opened in the last 30 days. Tap on View eDVIR to open a PDF document displaying the last Driver Inspection for the vehicle if one was done in the last 30 days.
Common Questions
What is an eDVIR?
An eDVIR (Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) is a digital inspection report submitted electronically by drivers before and after trips. It replaces paper inspections and helps ensure vehicle issues are reported accurately and addressed promptly.
When is an eDVIR required?
Drivers submit eDVIRs during pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections using the RyderGyde™ mobile app.
Can I make updates if defects are found?
Yes. Defects can be noted during the inspection process, and comments can be added to provide additional detail when needed.
Will Ryder always resolve the defects I've closed?
There are a few use cases that could occur in this instance:
- The next driver conducting the inspection determines that there is no issue and may resolve the defect before the vehicle is brought in for service.
- The customer coordinates a repair instead of taking the vehicle to the Ryder shop for service.
- The technician may determine that no repairs are necessary.
Does Ryder automatically schedule an appointment to service vehicles with defects?
No. The customer is responsible for bringing the vehicle in for service.
