Before renting a commercial vehicle from Ryder, customers must provide proof of insurance coverage or purchase qualifying coverage through Ryder. This article outlines the Certificate of Insurance (COI) requirements, coverage minimums, required endorsements, and submission process to help ensure a smooth rental experience. As part of the commercial rental process, Ryder requires proof of insurance coverage. Customers may provide their own insurance or purchase coverage through Ryder if qualified.
Certificate of Insurance (COI) – Required Information
If supplying your own insurance, submit a compliant Certificate of Insurance (COI) meeting all requirements below.
- Policy number, effective & expiration dates (must cover entire rental period)
- Evidence of Auto Liability and Physical Damage
- A complete Accord Form required
- The certificate must be signed by authorized insurer/agent
- Once all steps are complete, submit your COI to your local Ryder office before pickup.

Coverage Requirements
Liability
- Blanket coverage – Any Auto or Hired Autos
- Minimum $1,000,000 Combined Single Limit (CSL)
- Ryder endorsed as Additional Insured
Physical Damage
- Blanket hired physical damage coverage required
- If not ACV, then Minimum Physical Damage limit: Trucks: $120,000 | Tractors: $150,000
- Deductibles over $10,000 or self-insured subject to Ryder Credit approval
- Ryder endorsed as Additional Insured and Loss Payee

Additional Insured and Loss Payee
Ryder Truck Rental, Inc. and Ryder Truck Rental LT & Affiliates must be endorsed as Additional Insured and Loss Payee for all vehicles rented, leased, or provided as a substitute.
Cancellation Notice
- 30 days' written notice for cancellation
- 10 days' notice for cancellation due to non-payment of premium
- Email cancellations or reinstatements to COICancellations@ryder.com.

- Additional Insured Endorsement
- Loss Payee Endorsement
- Primary & Non-Contributory Endorsement
- Notice of Cancellation Endorsement
Tip: COI Requirements
Ryder does not accept unit-specific/scheduled policies. Handwritten forms will not be accepted. Certificates containing false or altered information not produced by the Insurer will result in termination of all rental contracts. To combat this, ensure that your policy is:
- Current and not expired
- A minimum of $1 million in coverage is required for an accident
- Ryder must be named as an additional insured and loss payee
- You mark an "Auto" or “Hired Auto” on the Automobile Liability section.
